This coffee originates from Capadocia Farm in the Mantiqueira de Minas coffee-producing region of Brazil. Located in the south of Minas Gerais, this region is one of Brazil’s leading coffee-growing areas, accounting for half of the country’s coffee production. Mantiqueira de Minas lies on the Minas Gerais side of the Mantiqueira Mountains. With a long-standing tradition of high-quality coffee production, it is now recognized as one of Brazil’s most awarded regions. In 2011, it received Geographical Indication (IG) status. The region is home to over 8,000 coffee producers, mostly small-scale (82%), and approximately 57,000 hectares are dedicated to coffee cultivation.
Augusto Borges Ferreira, a fourth-generation farmer from the Borges and Ferreira families, is a member of the APAS Coffee Cooperative. Initially, his father was skeptical about him pursuing coffee farming due to its low profitability. However, as Augusto improved coffee quality and won awards in competitions, his father recognized the potential for a future in coffee.
Capadocia Farm, previously known as Fazenda Fortaleza, was renamed by Augusto after Cappadocia in Turkey, famous for its hot air balloon rides. He likens the expansive view from a balloon to the experience of coffee. The farm is divided into 10 plots, covering 7 hectares, with 4 hectares dedicated to coffee production. The main varieties grown are Yellow and Red Catuai, Yellow Catucai, and Mundo Novo. The land is surrounded by riverside forests and has two water sources. The average annual rainfall ranges between 1,250 mm and 1,400 mm.
